In the bustling corridors of Vodafone Egypt, Kareem Eid, Consumer Business Unit Director, stands as a testament to the transformative power of curiosity, resilience and adaptability in the corporate world.

With a background in English literature and business administration, Kareem originally dreamt of an MBA and a career in the United States. Yet life had other plans.

Urged by his mother to find a job, Kareem found himself at a crossroads, choosing between Vodafone Egypt and Mobinil, now known as Orange Egypt. Trusting his instincts, he embarked on a path with Vodafone that would redefine his career and the company’s trajectory.

Thus began a journey that unfolded not merely as a series of progressions but as a story of challenges, learning curves and strategic pivots. Indeed, Kareem’s career path offers insights into the Vodacom Group ethos of growing to earn customer loyalty, while mirroring the authenticity, inclusivity and innovation that we pride ourselves on.

Laying the foundation

Despite initially feeling somewhat out of place in the new Risk Management department, Kareem embraced the opportunity and spent a year and a half expanding his exposure and building connections with inspiring individuals. This period at Vodafone was foundational, growing Kareem’s professional network and exposing him to the multifaceted operations of a telecommunications giant.

Transitioning to a leadership role in customer care, Kareem’s career took a turn towards marketing, where he would truly make his mark. His participation in the “Second Wave Strategy” project and the integration of Raya Telecom into Vodafone demonstrated his strategic foresight and ability to navigate complex mergers, emphasising the importance of connection and trust in leadership.

“It is essential to possess self-motivation and choose a job that aligns with your interests. Personally, witnessing the results of my efforts serves as a significant source of motivation.” – Kareem Eid

Explosive growth

Kareem’s rise through the ranks is characterised by growth and impact. From launching ADSL services to managing Vodafone Egypt’s data portfolio growth from 150 million to 1.5 billion Egyptian pounds a year, his initiatives have continually driven the company forward. Still, his approach to leadership and innovation remains grounded in humility and a keen grasp of the market and consumer needs.

Stepping into the role of Head of Retail in 2012, Kareem’s hands-on approach and dedication to transforming the division into a sales powerhouse led to the establishment of 250 additional stores and a tripling of the company’s channels. Later, as Digital Marketing Director, his leadership in digital transformation expanded the Vodafone app’s reach from 200 000 to 15 million customers, earning him a place on the Executive Committee and the opportunity to extend his impact across the company.

The formation of the Retail Academy under Kareem’s guidance is a prime example of his commitment to empowering employees and enhancing customer communication. His strategic shift from retail to overseeing brand and customer value management, and later leading digital transformation, shows a leader who isn’t just chasing the next big achievement but is invested in the growth of the company and its people.

No risk, no reward

Kareem’s personal narrative intertwines with his professional ethos, revealing a man who thrives on risk, adventure and the pursuit of knowledge. His love for adrenaline-fuelled activities like motorcycle touring, diving and kite surfing parallels his professional journey – each requires courage, precision and the ability to navigate unpredictable conditions.

His story is also one of influence and gratitude. Acknowledging the significant roles his mother, wife and mentor Mohamed AbdAllah, CEO of Vodafone Egypt, have played in his development, he highlights the importance of supportive relationships in achieving professional success.

Kareem’s path serves as a beacon for all Vodacommers, not as a pedestal to aspire to but as a mirror reflecting the diverse possibilities that lie within the spirit of innovation, learning and connection that defines #OneVodacom.
