After lockdown restrictions ended and we all returned to the office, our Open Day gave everyone the opportunity to meet as strangers and leave as friends, to immerse themselves in the brand and rediscover our unique culture.

Although the end of lockdown brought an overwhelming sense of freedom, our return to the office was disjointed. Something just didn’t gel. We seemed to have forgotten how to connect with each other and what a great place Vodacom is to work at.

To bring back the vibe and ignite the spark, the Internal Communications team hosted an Open Day, giving all Midrand-based employees the chance to get reacquainted with the soul of our brand. The theme was, fittingly, Unlock Your World.

The expo-style set-up created a relaxed atmosphere for internal departments and external service providers to showcase their offerings, and for employees to easily visit the vendor stands at their leisure, over two days.

Thriving at Vodacom

The idea was for everyone to experience a reorientation, learning about the company and everything we as employees contribute to it, connecting with each other in a fun space without walls and desks, and finding out about the benefits on offer that help us to thrive at Vodacom.

More than 15 vendors were on hand to give employees advice on all internal services and benefits available, from IT set-up to medical aid options, Vodacom World’s fantastic sale, the well-informed Digital Library team, incredible offers from Vodacom Business, cool kicks on display from Bathu, Tiger Wheel & Tyre’s services to keep you safe on the road, and many more.

In addition, representatives from VodaPay, Wellness and the Vodacom Foundation were on hand to provide information and resources to employees.

Something for everyone

The day wouldn’t have been complete without treats! The good stuff ranged from sweets to coffee, fruit and popcorn, plus giveaways from mugs to smart devices at each hub, on-the-spot competitions and a 360-degree camera to capture your moves.

Everyone received a goody bag on entry, with a blank passport to be filled by vendors when visiting their stands. One lucky participant who completed their passport won a R5 000 experience gift, and 50 runners-up received laptop and stationery stands.

After a resoundingly successful event, the Open Day took to the road, first to Limpopo in September, as part of the Spirit of Vodacom celebration, followed by the Central Region in early 2024. Look out for the details!
