Vodacom Lesotho’s Impact Booklet showcases the company’s commitment to its role as the leading telecommunications provider in Lesotho.

Over the past few years, the Vodacom Lesotho Foundation has driven cutting-edge technological innovations and enhanced connectivity to enrich the lives of Basotho.

Through investments in education, disaster relief and health sector initiatives, to name a few, we intend to build a story of growth that produces long-term value and sustains our core mission of advancing a digital society, ensuring inclusion for all and protecting the planet for future generations.

Here are just some of the highlights from the Foundation’s many years of passionate service, delivered by a caring team.

Empowering education and skills development

Thanks to the four million maloti set aside for bursaries every year, university students in Lesotho and South Africa are able to pursue studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Plus, enhanced internships and digital programming scholarships worth M800 000 are supercharging youth skills.

Tackling gender inequality and violence

Through the zero-rated Nokaneng app, Vodacom Lesotho supports victims of gender-based violence, providing vital information and resources to empower those in need. To help tackle the low representation of girls in STEM education, our #CodeLikeAGirl programme has trained more than 3 000 talented girls in coding between 2017 and 2023.

Innovative tech for vulnerable groups

In Maseru, Vodacom proudly supports education for the visually impaired with a state-of-the-art digital library equipped with braille translators, opening new horizons of learning. Additionally, Vodacom is committed to enriching the lives of deaf and blind learners with a M1.5 million investment supporting dedicated education facilities.

Improving maternal and child health

The m-mama programme, enabling emergency maternal health transportation, logged an incredible 4 784 emergencies in 2023 and is set for national expansion. The service positively impacted over 95% of its users. Read more about m-mama here.

Community support initiatives

Vodacom distributed reusable sanitary towels worth M500 000 to schoolgirls in remote areas. In response to the Seboche Hospital’s hailstorm damage, we pledged M1.2 million for its rehabilitation and provided essential information and communication technology (ICT) resources to support continuous care.

Environmental sustainability and green innovation

With 82 eco-stoves distributed and a pledge to plant 20 000 trees by 2023, Vodacom’s initiatives, including e-waste bins in shops, strive towards a sustainable and greener Lesotho.

These highlights reflect the incredible impact Vodacom Lesotho has on education, equality, healthcare, technology inclusion, community empowerment and sustainability. To see more of Vodacom Lesotho’s vital initiatives, download the full Impact Booklet here.
