Looking back on a year worth celebrating

In this edition, we highlight the many initiatives, achievements and events that made 2024, when we marked our 30th anniversary, a year of celebration.  

This year we were named the number 1 Top Employer in Africa, showing the power of connecting for a better future and the great strides we have made in putting our employees at the heart of everything that we do. 

Vodacom believes in empowering our people, as our renewed purpose highlights. In our double feature on the 2024 CEO Awards, we cast the spotlight on our stars of the year. They truly showcased our purpose in action. 

Our employees let the Vodacom Spirit shine bright this year at festive team-building events across our markets, where we cultivated connection, well-being and the joy of being part of an extraordinary team. 

One Spirit is also celebrating our loyal customers, whose support inspires us every step of the way. Several initiatives this year will enhance and grow our services to them, including our pioneering 5G expansion in Egypt, which is revolutionising the nation’s digital landscape. In Ethiopia, Safaricom has expanded its network coverage across the Somali Region, significantly improving connectivity for communities. The expansion of M-PESA Global is now also enabling customers to send money conveniently between Kenya and Ethiopia. 

As Safaricom celebrates 24 years of transforming lives, the company is delighting its customers and communities with the Sambaza Furaha campaign, a five-week initiative to spread joy and gratitude during the holiday season. Vodacom’s commitment to our customers is also reflected in our dedication to empowering businesses through innovative cybersecurity solutions, which was in focus at the Safaricom Cybersecurity Summit. 

Exemplifying our purpose pillar of protecting the planet, the award-winning net zero programme is paving the way for us to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2035.
