Living our Spirit and heritage at Vodacom South Africa
Vodacom South Africa combined the Spirit of Vodafone Day with Heritage Day, celebrated on 24 September. Staff enjoyed a special visit from the Kaizer Chiefs football club and participated in a heritage walk at Midrand campus, dressed in traditional attire reflecting their culture.
The event transcended job functions and roles, fostering connection and fun. The Exco team and LGBTQI+ community also met to discuss the importance of an inclusive and equitable workplace that offers psychological safety to all.
Thriving together at Safarilympics
Safarilympics, reflecting Safaricom’s Thrive pillars – Mind, Body, Heart & Soul – reminded us that our well-being fuels our performance. Starting in early October, staff from across Kenya gathered for a day of sports, fun and engagement. The events included field games, swimming and athletics, culminating in a staff party in the evening.
The initiative has four objectives:
- To bring to life the Spirit of Safaricom
- To revitalise employees’ mindset towards adopting physical fitness
- To entrench HUMANNESS as an enabler of the Spirit of Safaricom among staff
- To inject a sense of fun, joy and mental well-being among employees.
This year’s Safarilympics journey began in the scenic Nanyuki for the Mountain edition, moved to the sandy beaches of Diani for the Coast edition, visited Eldoret for the Rift & Greater Western edition, and concluded with the Nairobi Metropolitan edition on 8 November. By the end, more than 4 000 colleagues had recharged, reconnected, and celebrated as both teams and individuals.
Safaricom Ethiopia – a strong team for strong service
Our colleagues in Ethiopia recently spent a weekend nurturing the Spirit of the Safaricom Ethiopia family during their inaugural annual staff sports day. The event brought the team closer together, enhancing cohesion and a commitment to collectively pursue our vision.
The sports day highlighted the importance of effective communication in teams that collaborate successfully; they remain connected and engaged. By sharing best practices and experiences, they create a collaborative environment where everyone is motivated to go the extra mile with resilience, ultimately to best serve our customers.
